ORGANIC OLYMPUS MOUNTAIN TEA SCARDICA bunch (about 50g)
Mountain Tea (Sideritis sp.), Sideritis, Greek Mountain Tea
Other Names: Siderite
The name “Sideritis” comes from the Greek word for iron because siderite was considered an excellent medicine “against wounds from iron weapons”, i.e. wounds from wars in antiquity. Dioscorides advises soldiers to consume an infusion of “mountain tea” as a refreshing, regenerative aid to achieve faster and better healing.
Mountain tea contains a multitude of components such as flavonoids, diterpenes, phenylpropanes, iridoids, monoterpenes.
In recent years, mountain tea has been systematically studied by the medical and pharmaceutical community with the aim of verifying its positive effect on the body.
In the mountains of Greece, approximately 17 species of Siderite are found. Most are native to rocky areas at high altitudes. Its unrestrained but incorrect collection threatens some species with extinction, which in most areas has led local communities to prohibit its collection for commercial use. In fact, its cultivation for commercial purposes is promoted in order to protect the native varieties.
