Lungwort has been traditionally used in the treatment of coughs and bronchitis , especially when accompanied by a runny nose in the upper respiratory tract. The name Pulmonaria / Pulmonary / Lungwort was earned both because its fresh leaves resemble lung tissue and because of its beneficial properties for the lungs.

Traditional uses and benefits of Lungwort
- Lungwort has a high content of colloidal substance with emollient, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, which makes it useful in the treatment of chest diseases, while it is particularly beneficial in cases of chronic bronchitis.
- It combines well with other herbs, such as Cowslip, in the treatment of chronic coughs, including whooping cough, and can also be taken to treat asthma.
- The mucilaginous nature of the plant makes them useful in treating sore throats.
- It is beneficial for the lungs by helping to clear the airways by expelling mucus from the lungs.
- It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that prevent viral or bacterial infections in the lungs.
- It has been used to treat diarrhea (especially in children).
- Pulmonaria tea or tincture, when applied externally, can be used to treat eczema, hemorrhoids, wounds, and burns.
How is it used?
Leaves as an infusion: 1 teaspoon of dried Lungwort in a cup of boiled water for 10-15 minutes. Drink 3 times a day.
It combines well with the herb Whooping Cough for persistent coughs and/or with Thyme for protection against microbial infections.
Tincture 1-4 ml three times a day.
Special precautions:
There is no systematic data on the safety of Lungwort and no known side effects. In cases of excessive consumption, menstrual disorders, gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) and skin rashes in case of contact with the fresh leaves have been reported. It is recommended to avoid using Lungwort during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Due to lack of data, it is advisable not to use it for prolonged periods.
