Uses:
It appears to be beneficial for the immune system and helps in survival in some people with cancer . In a clinical trial, Astragalus was shown to reduce the overactivity of immune function in people with an autoimmune disease (lupus erythematosus), to prevent infections, in a preliminary trial it has been used in people suffering from heart attacks.

Test-tube and animal studies show that Astragalus fights herpes viruses, hepatitis C, and the H9 avian influenza virus. Additionally, laboratory studies suggest that APS may protect human astroglial cells, the most abundant cell type in the central nervous system, from infection with the herpes virus.
How is it used:
Traditional Chinese Medicine recommends 9-15 grams of tea (slowly boiled) per day from peeled root of the herb. Pieces of the root can also be chewed or added to soups and stews.
