Oak bark was traditionally used by herbalists to treat hemorrhoids, varicose veins, diarrhea, and cancer . Tannic acid from oak trees has a long history of application in dyeing leather and making ink.
Key Properties: Astringent, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic
Uses: (acute) diarrhea, dysentery, hemorrhoids (with enemas), pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis (with gargles), leucorrhoea (with vaginal washes.
How is it used:
The bark as a decoction: simmer 1 teaspoon in 1 cup of water for 10-15 minutes. Strain and drink up to 2-3 times a day.
In acute diarrhea, frequent and small doses are taken
Tincture: 1-2 ml of tincture, three times a day

Generally considered safe, occasional stomach upset or constipation have been reported
