A popular plant in Egypt and the Middle East where it is used to make beverages such as Karkade. It is added to drinks, food and tea blends to improve the taste and to color it red.
Basic Properties: Diuretic, tonic, blood purifier, hemopoietic, astringent
Uses: it has been used for reduced appetite, for digestive disorders, for colds (contains Vitamin), cardiological and neurological disorders, for inflammations of the upper respiratory tract,
for reducing cholesterol and high blood pressure, possibly reducing blood sugar levels.
How is it used:
Dried Hibiscus flowers as an infusion: add 1 teaspoon of dried flowers to 1 cup of boiled water for 10 minutes. Drink 3-4 times a day.
Special precautions:
The use of Hibiscus is considered safe. It should be avoided by pregnant women because there is a possibility that Hibiscus may cause bleeding. There is no data on the use of Hibiscus during breastfeeding.
Due to its potential to lower blood sugar, hibiscus should be used with caution by people who suffer from Diabetes, or are about to undergo surgery.
