Epimedium, Horny Goat Weed powder 50g

It thrives in China and parts of Europe. In China, the plant, known for centuries as Yin Yang Huo (balances Yin and Yang), is traditionally used to improve mainly male sexual problems. Its English name clearly refers to its aphrodisiac action, since "Horny Goat Weed" translates as "herb of the horny goat weed".

Basic Properties:

Horny Goat Weed contains chemicals that may help increase blood flow and improve sexual function . One component of the plant, a substance called icariin, may block a protein linked to erectile dysfunction called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5).

It also contains phytoestrogens, chemicals that act somewhat like the hormone estrogen, which could reduce bone loss in postmenopausal women. The flavonoid in Epimedium, icariin, is thought to help stimulate osteoblasts, the cells that build bone. Studies in laboratory animals that were given horny goat weed flavonoid extracts appeared to have a stronger defense against acquiring osteoporosis.

Horny Goat Weed is also used by athletes to enhance physical performance (weight training) and recovery. Horny Goat Weed is said to cause blood vessel dilation, which in turn will allow more blood to reach the skeletal muscles which receive more oxygen and nutrients, increasing muscle mass and strength as well as recovery.

Uses:

To enhance sexual drive, to increase sperm count. There is strong evidence that Epimedium has similar effects to Viagra, without the unwanted side effects (hot flashes, headaches, etc.). In women, it is traditionally used in China to combat fatigue & hypertension after menopause.

In traditional Chinese medicine and by modern physiotherapists, Epimedium has been used for a range of conditions including:

• Erectile dysfunction
• Low libido (sexual desire)
• Osteoarthritis ("wear and tear" arthritis)
• Osteoporosis (thinning of the bones)
• Joint pain
• Bronchitis (swollen airways to the lungs)
• Heart disease
• High blood pressure
• Enhances muscle strength and endurance

How to use / dosage:

• A typical dosage is: half a teaspoon of Horny Goat powder dissolved in water or juice . Drink 1-2 times a day.
• the leaves as an infusion: one teaspoon (5 g) of dried leaves in a cup of boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Drink 2-3 times a day

Special precautions:
Prolonged use or high doses can cause irritation, a drop in blood pressure in those with hypotension, and increase estrogen in some women. We don't know its safety in pregnancy or breastfeeding, so it's best to avoid it.
