BLACK MACA - BLACK MACA (Lepidium meyenii) tincture 50ml

Black Maca, also called Ginseng Andin, Peruvian Ginseng is a plant that grows in the high plateaus of the Andes. It has been used for centuries for at least 3000 years, indigenous Peruvians used Black Maca as food and medicine before the Incas.

Black Maca is the rarest form of Maca (10-15%) and is considered the most sacred and is used for the acute treatment of essential deficiencies and/or chronic health conditions. Black Maca represents the outer energy of our body (it is the masculine side of Maca), the one that strengthens, gives vitality and gives direction to our organism. Therefore, black Maca benefits our cognitive ability (brain fog), brain function , energy , mental focus, mental health (antidepressant), physical performance , male fertility , sexual function and libido. Black Maca root takes care of our entire outer being and our masculine energy, it is like an uplifting and encouraging boost . Black maca is ideal for use by men and women for more chronic or acute conditions, imbalances, and athletic and cognitive enhancement.

Why is black Maca used - what does it help us with?

1. Antioxidant Levels

A study published in 2018 compared the functional biological activities of the 3 main phenotypes of Maca. The study concluded that the lipids and polysaccharides of black maca showed higher antioxidant activity than the red and yellow. The red was less than 10% behind the black and the yellow was about 25%.

2. Metabolism

A study published in Frontiers in Pharmacology in 2018 found that Black Maca extract prevents metabolic disorders by helping to regulate glucose, which is an important metabolite for humans. The brain requires about 50% of its calories from glucose, and red blood cells are maintained exclusively by glucose. This study showed that black maca enhances glucose production in the body and can thus support a healthier metabolism.

3. Sperm production

From 2006 to 2016, there have been several major independent studies on how black maca root affects both sperm production and sperm motility. The first major study, published in 2006, found that Black Maca was the only color that effectively supported sperm production in rats tested. It also found that, “black Maca affects sperm count as early as 1 day after initiation of treatment.” A second study from 2006 found that “…black maca increased epididymal sperm count after 84 days of treatment” in the male rats studied. It also concluded that compared to other colors of maca, “black maca appeared to have a more beneficial effect on sperm count and epididymal sperm motility.” Similar results were found in 2016 with an increase in daily sperm production. This study, in mice, found that sperm motility as well as sexual dysfunction were positively affected by adding black maca root to the animals' diet over the course of 12 weeks.

4. Memory

In 2011 two different studies, one from China and one from Peru, found that Black Maca helped laboratory mice improve their memory and concentration skills.

5. Bone health

In 2010, a team of 6 researchers reported that Red and Black Maca were found to be the best at improving and protecting bone structure, especially in mice that had their ovaries removed.

6. Improving mood, learning and concentration

In 2006, a Peruvian team observed that while all colors of maca were beneficial in reducing depression, black maca also improved the learning and concentration abilities of lab mice. And a more recent 2016 study by a notable and larger group of international researchers found that black maca improved mood as well as overall “quality of life.”

Special precautions – method of use
Maca is safe as a food supplement and well tolerated by most healthy individuals. Residents of the Andean mountains in Peru consume up to 100 g of maca per day without side effects. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy, breastfeeding or if there are underlying diseases or by children under 18 years of age. Because it alters hormone levels, it should be avoided by people with thyroid diseases (given that maca belongs to the cruciferous vegetable family, which contains substances known as bronchogenics, which may affect the normal function of the thyroid gland, especially in people with thyroid diseases), hormone-sensitive diseases, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, cancer (breast-uterine-ovarian). Other side effects reported in overdose and long-term use without interruption are mood disorders, sleep disorders, cramps, gastritis, and menstrual cycle alterations.
