It is an excellent remedy for high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, protection against the early stages of heart disease, weakening of the heart muscles, pressure and tightness in the chest, for mild arrhythmia, and as a cardiotonic. It prevents the oxidation of cholesterol and hardening of the arteries .
Hawthorn (C. monogyna) is an extremely valuable medicinal herb. It was known in the Middle Ages as a symbol of hope and was administered for many diseases. Today it is mainly used for heart and circulatory disorders, especially angina. Western herbalists consider it literally as “ food of the heart ”, which improves blood flow to the heart muscles and restores normal heartbeats. Recent research has confirmed the validity of these uses. Hawthorn has bright red berries during the autumn. It is used in medicine to treat various circulatory disorders.
Hawthorn extract is clinically effective in reducing blood pressure : Mild antihypertensive and cardiotonic . Synergist of digitalis drugs.
Dosage / method of use
Adults: 8-12 drops in very little water, twice daily for 15 days. Repeat the same dosage after a 3 (three) day break.
Special precautions
Although hawthorn is generally considered safe for most adults to take short-term (up to 16 weeks), it may cause nausea, dizziness, fatigue, stomach upset, insomnia, increased heart rate, headache, sweating, or other problems in some people. It should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Caution is also needed if you are planning surgery .
