It has been used traditionally as a wound healer and as a dyeing material.

Alkane is an astringent and source of a red pigment used in cosmetics.
Traditionally, it was used topically to treat skin wounds and conditions such as acne and eczema .
Internally, Alcana root has been used for diarrhea and gastric ulcers .
Alkane root has demonstrated free radical scavenging activity, suggesting potential anti-aging effects.

Special precautions
Contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Avoid internal use without specialist supervision.
The pyrrolizidine alkaloid components of Alkan root are substrates for the cytochrome P450 3A4 isoenzyme
