Cranberries are a member of the heather family and are related to blueberries, huckleberries, and blackberries. The most commonly cultivated species is the North American cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon), but other types are found in the wild. Due to their very strong and sour taste, cranberries are rarely eaten raw.

Cranberries have been proven to be able to

  • At the same time, they are rich in vitamins C, E and K , manganese and proanthocyanins, powerful antioxidants .
  • They act against cholesterol
  • prostate inflammation
  • have antimicrobial effects on the body
  • reduce homocysteine levels in the blood, thus reducing the risk of inflammation in the arteries
  • helps prevent stomach cancer and ulcers
  • prevent the formation of kidney stones and tooth decay.
  • The citric acid they contain is being studied for its anticancer activity.

More about the usefulness of cranberries/blueberries:

Cranberries are a rich source of several vitamins and minerals , especially vitamin C and including manganese, copper, and vitamins E and K1. Cranberries are very high in bioactive plant compounds and antioxidants - particularly flavonol polyphenols. Many of these plant compounds are concentrated in the flesh of the fruit - and are reduced in cranberry juice.

One of the most well-known and beneficial antioxidants it contains is Quercetin . The most abundant antioxidant polyphenol in cranberries . In fact, cranberries are among the main fruit sources of quercetin. Other substances contained in cranberries are Myricetin. Peonidin. Ursolic acid. Proanthocyanidins type A.

Cranberries are best known for their usefulness in preventing urinary tract infections.
Urinary tract infections are among the most common bacterial infections - especially among women. Cranberry juice and supplements can reduce the risk of developing a UTI. However, they do not cure the acute phase of the infection but can help symptomatically.
If consumed regularly, cranberries or cranberry juice may reduce the risk of stomach cancer . The juice and extract also improve many risk factors for heart disease, including cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
