Gum arabic is made from the exudate of the stem and branches of the Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal trees in the Sahara desert.

The word "acacia" is composed of the negative "a" and the word "kakia", meaning lack of evil. It is used as a symbol of resurrection and immortality. The smoke from its bark is believed to keep demons away.

Uses: The Egyptians used it as a thickening agent in cosmetics and in mummification. It works excellently as a thickening and emulsifying agent and is used in confectionery, in brewing and as an ingredient in the preparation of cosmetic creams and emulsions.
