Its name comes from the word "thyō", which means to sacrifice, and it was burned as incense in the temples of the gods.

Basic Properties:
bactericidal, antifungal, antioxidant, digestive tonic, astringent, expectorant, antiseptic, diaphoretic, antispasmodic, appetizing

Uses
therapeutic: for dry, spasmodic cough (also in young children due to low toxicity), diaphoretic and expectorant for colds, bronchitis, sore throat, bad breath, chronic candidiasis, aids digestion, for stomachache
Cooking: With a spicy aroma, it is used in fatty dishes as an appetizer and digestive. It goes well with almost all types of cooked or grilled meat, fish, sauces and marinades.

How is it used:
Leaves and flowers as an infusion: 1/2 - 1 teaspoon (1-2 gr.) in 1 cup of water for 5-10'. Sweeten with honey if desired. Drink 3 times a day.

Special precautions:
Thyme is generally considered safe when used in the above therapeutic doses or in its usual culinary use.
Thyme is considered safe for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women for routine culinary use. We do not know if it is safe at higher therapeutic doses.
