By the term Chili and Cayenne we mean the powder of red hot peppers of the genus Capsicum frutescus.
They come from South and Central America and Southeast Asia.
All peppers have a heat index measured on the Scoville scale, named after the American who created the scale.
Key Properties: contains carotenoids, flavonoids, Vitamin C, increases metabolism and blood circulation,
antiseptic, astringent, digestive tonic
Therapeutic use: Eating meals with cayenne pepper stimulates metabolism. A chili drink warms cold hands and feet, stimulating blood circulation, for indigestion with gas and bloating, for intestinal colic.
Culinary use: We use it in meat or vegetable dishes, stews, on pizza and in many Latin American and Asian dishes. It is a key ingredient in curry powder, chili sauce and Tabasco.
How is it used:
As a drink by mixing 1/3 teaspoon with hot water.
Externally, it acts as a local heater for muscle and arthritic pain.
As a spice in your favorite dishes.
Special precautions:
If you are not familiar with hot spices, use caution the first few times you use cayenne pepper.
Milk or alcohol dissolves the caustic chemical, capsaicin, which, unlike water, spreads throughout the mouth, thus worsening the condition.
